Operates a toll-free, centralized intake, advice and referral service for low-income people seeking free legal assistance with civil legal problems. Assists in the following ways:
  • Give verbal or written advice that may help resolve the problem
  • Send written legal information and/or forms that may help resolve the problem
  • Try to resolve your problem through negotiation; *
  • Refer caller to another provider of legal aid.
Lawyers must avoid conflicts of interest that arise from talking with both parties to a dispute. Asks for information about the person, business or agency the caller is having a problem with to identify any conflicts of interest. Determines if they can assist those calling on behalf of another person or whether they need to speak directly with the other person both to avoid conflicts and to assure that we can obtain adequate information about the client and case.
