Eligibility

Kinship families are formed when grandparents or other relatives care for children whose own parents are unable to care for them. The arrangement can be informal and private; in other situations, the local child welfare agency is involved. Legal resident or citizenship not required.

Assists kinship families in locating needed resources and services. Accompanies families to CPS, Family Court, and school IEP meetings to provide support and reassurance. Administers the Kinship Caregiver Support Program which offers a one-time financial grant to low-income kinship families. Funds can be used for:
  • Food, Clothing, Basic Needs
  • School & Youth Activities
  • Emergency Utility Assistance
  • Emergency Rental Assistance
  • Transition Counseling
  • Transportation Assistance
Coordinates kinship caregiver support groups. Unable to provide legal advice or assist in completing any legal paperwork.
