Eligibility

Available to residents living in licensed long-term care facilities (nursing homes, assisted living, adult family homes, veterans’ homes). Family members or legal representatives can also seek help on behalf of a resident. The Ombudsman Program protects residents’ rights, investigates concerns, and promotes quality care.

Advocates for the rights of residents, serves as mediator in the resolution of complaints of residents related to the quality of life in long term care settings, provides information to the public concerning long term care settings, and monitors the regulations and policies that affect long term care residents.

The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program advocates for residents in all long-term care settings- including nursing homes, assisted living, adult family homes, and veterans' homes. Ombuds protect residents' rights, dignity, and quality of life by investigating complaints, resolving concerns, participating in care planning, and ensuring residents' voices are heard.
