Represents the interests of children and the State of Washington in cases involving paternity, enforcement of child support obligations, and modifications of child support and health insurance coverage. Requires the Prosecuting Attorney, by statute, to initiate proceedings under the Uniform Parentage Act to determine paternity, establish child support, provide health insurance coverage, and create a residential schedule for all children born outside of marriage or those not born to married parents.

Represents the interests of Yakima County and the State of Washington in criminal prosecution, provides advocacy services for victims, offers legal counsel to County officials, defends the County in civil proceedings, and establishes and enforces child support. The Office of the Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney consists of three divisions: criminal, child support, and corporate counsel (civil).
